Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences
(IAO SB RAS)
In October 2019, V.E. Zuev Institute of Atmospheric Optics SB RAS, the first academic institute in Tomsk, celebrates its 50th anniversary.
The Institute was founded in 1969 from the Laboratory of Infrared Radiations of the Siberian Physical-Technical Institute. A staff of five persons was allocated for the Institute and Vladimir Zuev was appointed its first director by the Resolution No. 410 of the Presidium of Siberian Branch of USSR Academy of Sciences on October 14, 1969.
The Institute was founded in 1969 from the Laboratory of Infrared Radiations of the Siberian Physical-Technical Institute of the Tomsk State University. Academician Vladimir Zuev (1925–2003), Hero of Socialist Labor, winner of the USSR State Prize and the Prize of the USSR Soviet of Ministers, winner of 22 government awards, headed the Institute for 28 years. Under the leadership of V.E. Zuev, the Institute has formed into one of the largest research institutions in the world in the field of atmospheric optics.
The Institute of Atmospheric Optics became a parent for such well-known research institutions, as Institute for Monitoring of Climatic and Ecological Systems SB RAS in 1971, Institute of High-Current Electronics in 1977, and the Institute of Strength Physics and Materials Science in 1984.
In 2018, the Commission for Evaluation of the Performance of Scientific Organizations of the Federal Agency of Scientific Organizations has conferred the First Category in the profile “Generation of Knowledge” to the Institute in the reference group “Physics of the Ocean and Atmosphere, Geophysics.” In March 2019, the Interdepartmental Commission for Evaluation of the Performance of Scientific Organizations has conferred the status of leading organization of academic sector in the field of atmospheric-optical studies to the Institute.
The solemn meeting dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the V.E. Zuev Institute of Atmospheric Optics SB RAS will be held on October 17, 2019, in the conference hall of the Rubin Congress Center (16 Akademicheskii Ave., Tomsk). The meeting will include presentation of reports and documentary film about the Institute
The Institutes celebrates its 50th anniversary at the peak of its creative activity. The interesting work and the good tradition to support early-carrier scientists attract university graduates to the Institute. Generation of new scientific ideas, which will necessarily yield practical results, continues!
The creativeness and ingenuity of Academician Vladimir Evseevich Zuev (1925–2003), Hero of Socialist Labor, winner of the USSR State Prize and the Prize of the USSR Soviet of Ministers, winner of 22 government awards, have materialized into current scientific progress and advances of the Institute!
